Alex Becker Source University review: not enough evidence
Alex Becker sold SEO training under the Source Wave and Source University names in the mid-2010s, alongside SEO software. We looked for a live seller page, Trustpilot and regulator records, read two Reddit threads, and read a YouTube video with its transcript and comments. The training does not appear to be on sale today.

Our verdict (editorial opinion)
We are withholding a verdict: the course appears discontinued and the only first-hand accounts we found are from 2015–2016. Buyers then were split between people who landed their first SEO clients and critics who called the marketing a bait-and-switch and said the real business was selling software.
Last verified: 31 October 2026 · Research-based review (we did not buy the program) · Community counts and ratings are as shown on the cited pages on that date
We did not buy it. This review is based on the public sales page, vendor documents, marketplace data and third-party or community reports, checked on 31 October 2026. We claim no hands-on use.
No affiliate relationship: we are not an affiliate for Alex Becker and no link on this page earns us money. Links to the seller are plain links, marked nofollow. See how we review creator courses.
The short version
- Status: we found no current sales page for Source Wave or Source University. Third-party sites say it was discontinued; we could not confirm that from the seller.
- Price: not confirmed.
- Trustpilot: our fetch of the source-wave.com page did not return a result, so we report no rating.
- “Hyperion”: some complaint sites tie the name Hyperion Business Processing to billing for other Becker-linked software products. We could not verify that link from a primary source, so we draw no conclusion from it.
- Regulators: we found no FTC action naming Alex Becker or Source Wave.
Regulatory record
A search of ftc.gov found no case naming Alex Becker, Source Wave or Source University. Absence of a record is not an endorsement.
What buyers and viewers reported
About the allegations on this page. Statements from Reddit, Trustpilot or YouTube users are their own opinions or accounts. We quote or summarise them with a link and date; we have not verified them, and we do not present them as fact.
- r/SEO, Jan 2016: u/m_ride86 “Got access to the source uni membership in Oct” and “Sold my first 2 customer seo packages over Christmas break”, adding “Source uni was a great starting point for me”. Another commenter says “Some of his advice is good” but that “there are many better ways to learn SEO”.
- r/Affiliatemarketing, Apr 2016: one commenter calls it a “Garbage bait-and-switch”, saying an advertised list of profitable niches was never delivered; another says “He's more of a software salesman” than an SEO practitioner, and a third warns that the private blog networks (PBNs) it taught risk Google penalties.
- YouTube, TheIM Lab, 2015: a student testimonial says they ranked a client “within 7 days because of the training from Becker and Source wave”. Not independent: it is a promotional testimonial. A commenter replies that the keyword had low competition, and another notes “his infinitum site is not accepting new members”.
Not enough third-party information to reach a full verdict
We looked for independent evidence and did not find enough to judge whether this product does what it says. Most of what is published about it comes from the vendor or from affiliates who earn a commission if you buy. Here is exactly what we checked and what was missing.
What we checked
- Reddit threads 41pmj3 (3 comments) and 4cx71u (3)
- One YouTube video: transcript and 6 comments
- FTC site search (no case found)
- Trustpilot fetch attempted (no result returned)
What was missing
- A seller page, price or refund policy
- Any account newer than 2016
- Primary-source confirmation that the course ended
Claims that need corroboration before a fair verdict is possible
- The “Hyperion” billing link
- Reported client wins
- Claims that the course was discontinued

The seller’s side
Supporters in 2016 said the training taught widely used SEO tactics in detail and helped beginners sign their first clients; one called him “a really good salesman” rather than anything worse. Becker has moved on to other businesses. We will publish any response from Alex Becker or his companies.
Our verdict
Not enough evidence. There is no current product to buy, and the old evidence is thin and split. If you see Source University offered for sale today, treat it as an unofficial copy or a different product, and check who is billing you.
What we like
- Some 2016 buyers landed SEO clients
- Detailed PBN-era SEO training, per supporters
What to watch out for
- No current seller page or price
- PBN tactics risk Google penalties
- Critics say it funnelled buyers to software
- All first-hand accounts are about ten years old

Alex Becker Source University FAQ
Is Source University still available?
We found no current seller page on 31 Oct 2026.
What is Hyperion?
Complaint sites link the name to billing for other Becker-linked products. We could not verify it, so we make no claim.
Is Alex Becker’s course a scam?
We don’t use that word. The evidence is too old and thin for a verdict.
