Tai Lopez: what he sells, and what students and critics say about him

Tai Lopez is an American entrepreneur and YouTuber who sells online business and self-improvement programs at tailopez.com, including the 67 Steps, a Social Media Marketing Agency (SMMA) course and a recurring VIP membership. Opinion about him is sharply split. Separately, the SEC has sued him over Retail Ecommerce Ventures (REV). This page sets out what he sells, what supporters and critics say (with links), and what the public record does and does not show.

We did not buy anything. This profile is built from the creator's own pages and terms, public records, news reporting, and public posts on Reddit, Trustpilot, BBB and YouTube, all read on or before 6 November 2026. We claim no hands-on use of any program.

No affiliate relationship: no link on this page earns us money. Links to the creator's own sites are plain links, marked nofollow. See how we review creator courses.

How to read this profile. It summarises what other people say about this creator and what the public record shows. Praise and criticism are attributed to the person who said it, with a link and date. Statements by the creator or his companies are labelled as their claims. Nothing here is a finding of wrongdoing.

Who he is and what he sells

  • Seller: programs are sold through tailopez.com / Website Monetization, LLC (per the course-review terms we previously read).
  • Catalogue (4–6 Nov 2026): the programs page lists offerings such as the Original 67 Steps, SMMA-related training, sales and copywriting workshops, AI templates and a VIP Lifestyle Training Program.
  • 67 Steps: $67 for lifetime access; the checkout adds VIP at $69.99/month unless cancelled within 30 days (checkout page, read for our course review on 4 Nov 2026).
  • Our course review: Tai Lopez review (SMMA, 67 Steps, VIP) covers prices, refund complaints and the thin SMMA evidence in detail.

What Lopez and his companies say (their claims)

  • “The Good Life.” Marketing for 67 Steps frames lessons around health, wealth, love and happiness, largely via books and frameworks. That is his positioning, not a verified outcome.
  • Testimonials with income claims appear on the 67 Steps checkout (for example large first-week or teen-profit quotes). These are the seller's selected testimonials; we have not verified them, and they are not typical results.
  • Satisfaction guarantee. The 67 Steps page has stated a 60-day money-back promise. How it is honoured in practice is disputed in some BBB complaints.
  • Education vs investing. His training products are sold as education. The SEC case below is about securities offerings in REV, not about the courses themselves.

Supporters and critics

About the allegations on this page. Statements from Reddit, Trustpilot or YouTube users are their own opinions or accounts. We quote or summarise them with a link and date; we have not verified them, and we do not present them as fact.

Opinions are the named posters' own. Some users use the word “scam”; that is their opinion, which we do not adopt. We found no court finding that his courses are fraudulent.
ViewWho said it, and whereWhat they said
SupportiveTrustpilot (about 4.1–4.2 from ~180+ reviews in recent reads)Some reviewers praise coaching calls and free ‘book of the day’ content; one June 2026 quote on the course-review research set called a session “Best 15 minutes of business coaching I've ever had!”.
Supportiver/Entrepreneur, Oct 2024A deleted account that said it bought 67 Steps and SMMA wrote “The information is legit”.
MixedBBB complainants / company repliesSeveral 2025–2026 complaints concern cancellation, payment plans and refunds; in published replies the business says it issued full refunds in some cases and acknowledges unclear handling.
CriticalTrustpilot, 2026Reviews such as “Save your money. Buy a book” (Oct 2026) and an Aug 2026 account of a “Disorganized” in-person event with “very little actionable information”.
Criticalr/Entrepreneur, 2015 (67 Steps)Most replies dissect the long sales video rather than the course; few commenters say they bought it.
Criticalu/flyfightandgrin, r/Entrepreneur, Oct 2026Asked why people still attend his talks after the SEC case; the post frames him harshly. That is the poster's opinion. The SEC case is pending and concerns REV, not the courses.
Criticalr/FakeGuru, Oct 2026Same SEC-news reaction thread. User commentary is not a court finding.

Public record

  • SEC v. Taino Adrian Lopez et al., S.D. Fla. No. 1:25-cv-24356: per SEC Litigation Release No. 26413 (25 Sep 2025), the SEC charged Lopez, Alexander Mehr and Maya Burkenroad over Retail Ecommerce Ventures (REV). The SEC alleges about $112 million raised through fraudulent offerings, “Ponzi-like payments” of at least $5.9 million, and about $16.1 million misappropriated. These are allegations in the complaint; no court has found them proven as of our 6 Nov 2026 check.
  • Case status: the CourtListener docket shows the matter administratively closed while settlement talks continue. A September 2026 docket entry summarised by CourtListener states the parties have “come to an agreement which if accepted by the Commissioners… would resolve this matter”, with a further joint status report due on or before 10 November 2026. Nothing is final until the Commission and the court accept an order.
  • Not about the courses: the SEC case concerns REV investment offerings (brands such as RadioShack and Pier 1 online), not SMMA, 67 Steps or VIP.
  • FTC: we found no FTC enforcement action naming Tai Lopez's training business (searched for our course review and rechecked 6 Nov 2026).
  • BBB: Tai Lopez.com, West Hollywood — not accredited; BBB posts a “Pending Government Action” notice about the SEC case. Complaint counts in recent reads have been about 7 in three years, with most marked answered or resolved.

Lopez's side

His companies publish programs, free content and a stated money-back window on 67 Steps, and BBB responses show at least some refunds issued. On the SEC case, the defendants have not been found liable; the docket shows active settlement discussions awaiting Commission review. We have not contacted him for this profile, and we will publish any factual response from him or his counsel.

What we could not verify

  • Typical student results for SMMA, 67 Steps or VIP.
  • Current SMMA price and full syllabus on a seller page.
  • Whether the 60-day guarantee is honoured as advertised in every case.
  • The final outcome of the SEC case (still pending Commission/court acceptance as of 6 Nov 2026).
  • Older “dating-site bots” and similar internet lore repeated on Reddit — we found no primary record tying those claims to a regulator finding, so they stay unverified.

Corrections and right of reply. If you are Tai Lopez or represent the seller, or you think anything here is wrong or out of date, email hello@active-learning-site.com with the page and a source. We will check it, correct the page if needed and publish a factual response from the seller.

Tai Lopez FAQ

Is Tai Lopez legit?

His training business is real and long-running, and some buyers value the material. Reviews are mixed, VIP billing needs care, and a separate SEC case over REV is pending. See our course review for program-level detail.

Has the SEC sued Tai Lopez?

Yes. In September 2025 the SEC charged him and others over REV securities offerings. The allegations are unproven; the case is administratively closed pending a possible settlement recommendation.

Is the SEC case about his courses?

No. It concerns investment offerings in Retail Ecommerce Ventures brands, not SMMA, 67 Steps or VIP.

Where is your course review?
